英国的水仙和中国的水仙不同，一般称为洋水仙。洋水仙与中国水仙相比，具有花大、色艳，香味较淡等特点。洋水仙品种繁多，其中以书中提到的娇黄明艳的黄水仙最具代表性。比较需要注意的是洋水仙虽然长的好看但是它的根茎中的无色透明黏液却有毒，如果误食就会导致呕吐、腹痛、腹泻等胃肠道反应，严重的还可导致昏厥，甚至有生命危险。
【安安与安德森】的定情之花黄水仙在第8章，第26章，第30章和第31章的内容中多次出现。它暗喻着朴齐顺逝去的青春，还是安安吟诗的对象，又是安德森为安安准备的手捧花。在第26章(在她房里睡个好觉）里，当安德森第一次到安安的宿舍房间时，在墙上看到一张画了一朵水仙花素描的诗。在第31章（只属于你的结婚誓词）里，安德森以这首诗为参考，结合与安安生活的日常点滴，改写成自己的结婚誓言。这首英国的著名诗人威廉华兹华斯的【咏水仙】是一首家喻户晓，有着200多年历史的经典诗歌，其原文如下：
